Mandi Smith, Hygienist
Finding fulfillment in dentistry
From a young age Mandi knew she wanted to work in healthcare. In high school, she did a co-op at a dental office and fell in love with the dental field. Her favourite part about being a dental hygienist is getting to know families and seeing them grow over the years.
She enjoys being part of the team at Centrepointe because everyone knows their roles and works well together. When a team member is missing it’s definitely felt!
Patient comfort is key
Mandi understands that sometimes patients may feel nervous in the dental chair. She helps them relax by working at a pace and comfort level that feels good. For particularly nervous patients, she may even work on breathing techniques and other relaxation exercises during treatment.
Her patients have probably heard her say it a million times, but Mandi’s top tip for oral health is this: Brush your teeth downward on the top and upward on the bottom (no side-to-side or circular motions) with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Also remember to floss below the gums everyday.
Education and training
Mandi received her Dental Hygiene Diploma from Algonquin College in 2002.
Passions outside of work
When she’s not helping improve patients’ oral health, you can find Mandi enjoying the great outdoors. Her favourite pastimes include horseback riding, camping and hiking.
